Romantik Period

Composers sought to express sensuous beauty and tonal enchantment. In view of the Composers’ concerns with expression and textural aspects of the music, School F is the only avenue of thought that stresses the importance of these matters. The concepts of diction as set forth in School D are often applicable to music in a homo phonic style. The Principles of School A, however, with its emphasis on full, weighty, and vibrant tone is applicable for use with such monumental works as the final movement of Beethovven’s Ninth symphony, where strength of voices is needed to balance the forces of the full orchestral sound. The tone of School A is appropriate for a number of other large choral / orchestral works as long as it is not overdone. For all such works, however, the premises of tone quality of School F should be carefully considered and applied.
